I first made this in August of 1993 when we lived in California...it was Frances Williams' recipe:
1 T sugar
2 T yeast
2 cup warm water
2 eggs
*1/3 cup honey
*1/3 cup molasses
*1/3 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup oil
1 T salt
4 cups white flour
4 cups wheat flour
Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Add eggs, sugars, oil, sat and 2 cups white flour. Beat well. Add remaining flour - mixing and beating well. Knead dough until smooth. Let rise in a greased bowl (i.e. put a T or so of vegetable oil in the bottom of a bowl, plop the dough on it and then flip over) until double, about 1 hour.
Punch down and divide intwo two loaves. Place in greased loaf pans and let rise about 45 minutes, or until loaf is nicely rounded.
Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes.
(See below for tips on making it cinnamon bread and/or making extra loaves)
*she reduces this to 2/3 cups honey and leaves out the molasses and brown sugar
